Day 1
Arrival At Kigali International Airport
Pick up from airport and transfer to the hotel where you will get a detailed briefing from your guide and also acclimatize to the high altitude of Rwanda.

Day 2
Kigali City Exploration And Bugesera Reconciliation Village
After breakfast start a historical-minded exploration of Kigali city with visits to landmarks from colonial, post-independence, genocide and post-genocide times. Start with the Kigali Genocide memorial site where over 250,000 genocide victims were put to rest in mass graves, Visit Belgian camp where 10 UN peacekeepers were killed before the start of Genocide trying to protect the late Prime Minister.
Visit Campaign against Genocide Museum at the Parliamentary Building details the plans undertaken for the Genocide against the Tutsi to be stopped.
Lunch and afternoon transfer to Bugesera to visit the reconciliation village where the survivors of genocide live together in harmony with the perpetrators that killed their own families, get to hear testimonies from them and engage in different community activities such as: traditional dances, cooking, basket weaving, etc. Drive back to Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Mille Collines Hotel

Day 3
Akagera And Boat Cruise On Lake Ihema
Transfer to Akagera National Park – arrival and briefing followed by a Game drive get opportunity to see 11 species of antelopes, over 480 species of birds including the rare ones such as the shoe bill stock, papyrus gonolek and the big 5 i.e. Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Buffalo and Elephant) to mention but a few. The park has the highest concentration of birds per square kilometer, very beautiful undulating landscapes, high species numbers and endemic species plus historical and cultural sites inside the park.
In the afternoon drive to Lake Ihema for the thrilling boat cruise to see the schools of hippos, giant Nile crocodiles, buffaloes, water birds, etc. Overnight: – Akagera game Lodge

Day 4
Full Day In The Wilderness
Early morning, search for the unseen wildlife such as giraffes, herds of buffaloes, species of antelopes including the biggest antelopes such as the eland cape and roan antelopes; your favorite ungulate, the topi, reptiles, amphibians, plants, magnificent landscapes, historical sites. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge

Nyungwe Enroute Visit The King’s Palace And Ethnographic Museum
After breakfast at the hotel drive out of the Park (7am) to Nyungwe National Park, en-route do a historical-minded exploration of Nyanza – visit the King’s palace and traditional Rwanda home; the National Museum, introduction to Rwanda’s kingdoms, discovery of colonial architecture.
Proceed to Nyungwe forest. This national park is the largest tropical afro Montane rainforest east or central Africa and a rainforest it is and receives over 2000mm of rain each year and its Rwanda’s largest water catchment area and its home to 2/3rds of all Rwanda’s water. The forest also feeds both the river Congo and the River Nile with water.
Nyungwe is also home to over 300 different bird species, many butterflies, orchids, 75 mammal species including the 13 primates, and there have also been the sightings of the golden monkeys.

Day 6
Chimpanzee Tracking & Canopy Walkway
Early breakfast (or have packed breakfast instead) at 5am then drive to the edge of the forest where chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe starts you will go with experienced trekking guides and trackers who will give you exciting information about the humans’ closest relative in DNA composition, you will spend up to an hour following and watching the chimpanzees once you spot them.
Lunch and refreshment later return to the park reception, briefing followed by a walk to the famous canopy walk way. A 70 m high and 160m long artificial bridge which allows you to see beautiful views of this old forest from the top. You will also get chance to see some birds at the tree crowns.
On your return you will transfer to the hotel where you enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure, at Lake Kivu where your hotel is located. Overnight: – Kivu Marina Bay Hotel

Day 7
Kibuye Lake Kivu - Boat Cruise To Visit Napoleon And Amahoro Islands
Breakfast then drive to drive to Kibuye at Lake Kivu. The Rwanda’s most attractive of lake ports, nestled in a series of interwoven and undulating hills and offering visitors spectacular views of the lake, its islands and the stunning surrounding countryside. It is considered one of Rwanda’s hidden treasures, with its lush green hills and peaceful breeze.
Lunch at the hotel as you enjoy the views of the Lake. Transfer to the shores of the Lake Kivu to enjoy a boat ride to visit the Napoleon and Amahoro Islands to see a number of colorful birds, clouds of big fruit bats, learn the history of the lake and the beautiful views of the Lake surroundings.
Afternoon visit the Environment Museum, learn more about conservation, different Rwanda’s vegetation, fauna and flora, geographical changes, etc. Overnight at Cormoran lodge

Day 8
Volcanoes National Park – Visit A Cultural Village Or Canoe Trip On River Mukungwa
Transfer to Volcanoes National Park, on arrival in Musanze (Volcanoes destination) you will proceed to Ibyiwacu Cultural Village known as Gorilla Guardians where you will learn more about Rwandan culture and lifestyles. Get to understand the culture of the Rwandans through their daily life and knowledge of the environment, poetry, folklores, dancing, singing, pottery and the theoretical hunt gathering skills. It’s one of the thrilling experiences and very adventurous as you try to adapt to the traditional hut homes and lifestyle.
OR Visit RedRocks where you will learn more about banana and sorghum beer production. Banana and sorghum are some of our staple food products in Rwanda and they are used in different ways i.e.as food, local beer/drinks and very important in the cultural practices most especially during our traditional wedding ceremonies, settling of disputes between community members, bonding relationship between different families etc.

Day 9
Golden Monkey Trekking & Afternoon At Leisure
Transfer to the entrance of the park early this morning at 6:20am to trek the Golden Monkeys. It is now believed that they are the only feasible population of Golden Monkeys residing in Volcanoes National Park. They are beautiful and endangered primates which are endemic in the Virunga Mountains Region and have become quite habituated to humans, making it possible to observe them closely.
OPTION 2: GORILLA TREKKING (at an additional fee of US$1400 per person)
After breakfast at 06:20 we transfer to the park reception, completing our park formalities then embark on a once in a life time experience of tracking mountain gorillas.
Once you spot them you are allowed to spend an hour watching your closest long-lost cousin. This is perhaps one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences on earth!!! You get so close to these awesome giant primates. You stare at each other blankly not knowing who to break the long silence first. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes is a magical experience.
Be back at the base and meet your driver guide who will then take you to the hotel to refresh and haver lunch. Spend the rest of your afternoon at leisure resting or go for a guided village walk with your guide.

Day 10
Gorilla Trekking In The Wild - Kigali
After breakfast at 06:20 we transfer to the park reception, completing our park formalities then embark on a once in a life time experience of tracking mountain gorillas.
Once you spot them you are allowed to spend an hour watching your closest long-lost cousin. This is perhaps one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences on earth!!! You get so close to these awesome giant primates. You stare at each other blankly not knowing who to break the long silence first. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes is a magical experience.
Be back at the base and meet your driver guide who will then take you to the hotel to refresh and haver lunch.
Drive back to Kigali, depending on your departure time you will be dropped at the Airport for the departure flight.

RULES & REGULATIONS IN THE PARKS
• Never walk alone in the park, always take a guide and listen to him/her
• Keep your voice low so that you don’t frighten the wildlife
• When you are with Gorillas/Chimpanzees keep your distance (7m minimum/23ft), no smoking, eating or drinking, no cell phones, if you must sneeze or cough always cover your face and turn away from gorillas. Visits are limited to 1 Hour per gorilla group per day.
• If you’re to take pictures don’t put the flash ON.
• Don’t drop litter, take it home or in your car (or carry them till you reach the reception where there is bins)
• It is prohibited to pick or remove any plans or other wildlife in the park
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU TRAVEL TO RWANDA
- VISA: In Rwanda visas can be obtained on arrival. All African nationals are either visa exempt or get their visa on arrival
Rwanda, a member of East African community allows citizens of all countries that are not visa exempt to obtain visa on arrival. In additional they may also obtain an e-visa online before departure. All visitor must hold a valid passport for at least 6 months with at least one empty page.
Rwanda is the safest country in Africa!
- Credit cards: the official currency in Rwanda is Rwandan Franc (RWF), the US dollar is widely accepted.
- Dollar bills issued before 2006 are not accepted in most shops, banks and more places.
- When packing: do not forget a light rain coat, good hiking/walking shoes or boots, when tracking you will be in rain forests and it is more likely to rain anytime. Bring also an insect repellent, light clothes if you’re going on a safari, long sleeve clothes, hat/cap if you’re doing safaris plus sunglasses, swimming costumes if you like swimming, main hotels in Kigali or Parks have swimming pools. Swimming at Lake Kivu (Karongi or Rubavu) follow the advice of the guide.
- Drinking water: it is not advisable to drink water from the taps, you will be able to get bottled water whenever you go.
- We recommend you to carry large dollar bills and of recent series – 2009 and above.
- An East Africa tourist visa is recommended for those visiting Rwanda Uganda and Kenya – US$100 PP
- Vaccination: A Yellow Fever vaccinationcertificate is only required for travelers 1 year of age and older coming from a country with risk of Yellow Fever Malaria vaccine is not compulsory but advisable.
- Health: In Rwanda you can find hospitals whenever you are, pharmacies on the same lines with shops in cities/towns plus small villages.
NOTE: Before setting out; coughs and sneezes spread diseases and can kill gorillas. If you have a cold or flu or other infectious illness, do not visit Gorillas! Get a doctor’s note and your permit fee will be refunded or you trek when you’re fine.
Rwanda is strictly a polythene free country. For environmental reasons, plastic bags are not allowed!
