The kopjes (prehistoric rock outcroppings) host hyraxes, dwarf mongooses, red-headed agamas and often a sleepy black-maned lion or leopard. Pick up in the morning at the hotel, head to stone town. On arrival start the tour, this is a walking tour that takes you through fabled Stone Town, where history appears to stand still. With visits to the House of Wonders, the former slave market for East African Slave trade, and the Arab Fort amongst.
This two or three hours tour begins with a visit to Zanzibar’s colorful market, alive with the buzz of locals bartering fresh vegetables and baskets of tropical fruit, amongst the heady aroma of herbs and spices, we continue onto the site of a cathedral built in 1874 then to the Zanzibar Museum, Tippu Tip’s House, the former British Club, the Old Fort and the recently renovated Indian Dispensary. Your tour ends with a stroll through the narrow streets of Stone Town.
The architectural style of Stone town buildings is a unique mixture of various influences and culture. You will see Zanzibar’s bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, two c cathedrals and countless mosques. Stone Town has some excellent gifts shops with plenty of souvenirs and handcrafts to choose from.
Lunch followed by the visit to the Prison Island. The island lies just off the Old Stone Town, it is also a home to giant land tortoises that were imported from Seychelles in the late 19th century. Now it is more commonly known as a home of Zanzibar’s Giant Aldabran Tortoise colony, some of which are over a hundred years old.
Once on the island, you have the opportunity to feed and pet the tortoises; if you have time, you may also like to take a stroll through the forested interior where you will see a wide variety of birds, colorful peacocks. It is fringed with a beautiful coral reef, ideal for snorkeling, and has a lovely white beach for sunbathing.
Head to the beach side in the afternoon.

Travel Months: we would recommend planning this trip between the months of November and June, when the herds are plentiful in the southern plains. Within this period, May and June offer the absolute best wildebeest viewing from Lobo Lodge. If the Great Wildebeest Migration is not a focal point of your trip, it would be worth visiting between the months of July and October, when wildlife in Tarangire is most plentiful. Tarangire is a migratory park that is filled with migratory mammals and birds during this period.
